Trotsky Lev |
Le guerre balcaniche. |
1912-1913 The Balkan Wars. 1912-1913 |
Sent to the Balkans in 1912 as war correspondent of the radical-democratic popular newspaper Kievskaja Misl’ and other periodicals, Trotsky was able to know directly and describe from his own point of view scenarios and people involved in the tragedy as it was taking place in the tormented Balkan peninsula, which in recent years has been the testground for the new multipolar relations between the powers and was subsequently drawn into the gravitational field of European imperialism. In many passages, Trotsky’s masterly descriptions turn out to be enlightening, as his commentary is exemplary: “Suddenly war shows us that we are still crawling on all fours and that we have not yet left the womb of the barbaric age of our history.” |
