The founders of Lotta Comunista started thinking about the tasks of the present in the Fifties. Their investigation was based on the forecast of the spread and uneven development of the capitalist mode of production, and found a first definite form in the early Eighties. Specifying “what is to be done today” always requires a strategic evaluation of the paces and times of capitalist development, while waiting for mythical deadlines has negatively affected the history of the communist movement. The question which needs to be answered is always “what is to be done today?”, and not “what will happen tomorrow?”. Imperialist development multiplies capital’s forces, extends the capitalist market to the world population, and unevenly creates new powers which cyclically compete for new partitions. In the history of imperialism every considerable change in international relations has gone beyond the mere peaceful ground. China is today adding a world to the world. There hasn’t been any single power which has been able to embody such a radical shift in the relations of force. That is the challenge for the tasks of the present. |
